On Thursday 9th September NIG took part in Direct Line Group’s 2021 Sprintathon showdown between Bristol, Bromley and Leeds to raise money for Stand up to Cancer.
Stand up to Cancer is an annual campaign set up by Cancer Research UK to accelerate lifesaving research and treatments. Sadly, one in two of us will have some form of cancer in our lives.
Since 2018 employees from NIG and other brands within Direct Line Group have sprinted their way to raising over £250,000 through fundraising and Community Cashback awards along with donations from our DLG Community Fund.
All the money raised goes towards ground-breaking research for new tests and treatments including ‘smart viruses’ which only attack cancer cells, leaving the healthy ones intact and ground-breaking blood tests to help catch cancer sooner, saving more lives.
The Sprintathon consists of teams of four runners completing 4 x 100m sprints in a continuous giant relay on a 400m track to see how far they can go round in one hour. Bromley and Leeds both completed 52 laps with Bromley taking the crown in 00:59:49 and Bristol achieved 50 laps.
Sonya Bryson, MD of NIG, who ran in the Bristol leg, said, “It was brilliant to share the day with friends and colleagues who haven’t seen each other in person for a long time and a fun way to support a great charity. Well done to everyone who took part!”
